"Over the course of 20 years working in the wine industry, I developed a deep appreciation for the 'magic' wine can create. For me, the special thing about wine is how it can elevate the experience of people connecting or enhance a beautiful meal. Our Story

The Name "Misty Cliffs"

The name "Misty Cliffs" is inspired by the unique coastal vineyards we use to craft our wines. Situated close to the Atlantic Ocean, these vineyards are regularly enveloped by a gentle coastal mist that drifts in after a long, hot sunny day.

This natural phenomenon acts like an air conditioner for the vines, cooling them down and preserving the intense flavors in the grapes.

The mist’s calming effect not only shapes the character of our wines but also embodies the serene beauty of the South African coast, from which Misty Cliffs takes its name.

What does each terroir bring to the Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé, and Cabernet expressions, respectively?

Vines that struggle often produce wines with more character and better flavor development. Many of our vineyards are located near the coast, subject to harsh growing conditions without irrigation and exposed to strong winds. These conditions typically result in smaller berries and more intense flavors.

Our Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from cooler climate coastal vineyards, primarily in a town called 'Darling.' This region provides excellent acidity and minerality. Our Rosé and Cabernet-Merlot wines primarily come from the Swartland region, renowned for its remarkable soils and home to many of South Africa's leading winemakers. Our Rosé exhibits delightful strawberry and floral notes, accompanied by red berry fruit, and a touch of sweetness on the finish. The Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot offers a flavorful and smooth experience, with dark berry fruit and spice, and beautifully layered tannins on the finish.

What are your favorite go-to's for food pairings?

The acidity of Sauv Blanc balances well with creamy goat cheese or spicy Thai foods. Our floral Rosé pairs delightfully with seared salmon or brie cheese. Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot pairs well with meat as well as tomato-based dishes. I especially like our red with Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese.

Does a De-Alcoholized wine start as a regular alocoholic wine?

Yes!

De-alcoholized wine is made from traditional wine that undergoes a process of gentle alcohol removal to less than 0.5%ABV.

The alcohol content is so low that it's classified as non-alcoholic.

Does your red wine have tannins?

Yes, our Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot blend, is aged in French & American oak and has a beautiful tannin structure, adding depth and complexity to savor and enjoy.

Does non-alcoholic wine have fewer calories?

Yes, our non-alcoholic wine contains up to 75% fewer calories than alcoholic wine, thanks to the absence of calorie-rich alcohol.

How do you preserve the flavor during de-alcoholization? (i.e. alcohol removal)

Our winemaker selects premium grapes with bold flavors shaped by coastal conditions.

Using advanced spinning cone technology, we gently remove alcohol while preserving the wine’s rich taste and natural essence for an authentic experience.

Do you add any flavorants or concentrates to your wines?

No, we prioritize authenticity and purity.

Our wines are free from added flavorants or concentrates, staying true to the natural ingredients of traditional winemaking.

Do people who drink non-alcoholic wines still drink alcoholic wines?

Absolutely!

Around 90% of customers who enjoy non-alcoholic wines also continue drinking alcoholic wines—much like choosing decaf coffee in the evening while still enjoying regular coffee earlier in the day.

Are you vegan-friendly, gluten-free, and plant-based?

Yes, we use no animal-derived ingredients or gluten.

Where are your vineyards?

We source grapes mainly from cooler coastal vineyards, near the Atlantic ocean. We source from towns like Stellenbosch, Swartland, Darling and other coastal sites.

How do you practice sustainability?

We use lightweight glass for our bottles and they are fully recyclable. Also, our label paper is certified sourced 100% from sustainable forests only. Not only are we WIETA accredited, but we are also IPW certified, meaning that our grapes and wines are produced in an environmentally responsible manner and is safe for consumers.
