"After 20 years in the wine industry, I’ve come to love how wine can elevate moments, whether it’s bringing people together or complementing a great meal. I wanted to create an elegant and healthier alternative that didn’t sacrifice taste, and that’s how Misty Cliffs was born."

Jason’s love for wine began over 20 years ago, and his passion for its flavors and rituals has only grown. While he still appreciates a great bottle, like many, he’s drinking less alcohol these days.

Weekends, he enjoys ‘zebra striping’ with non-alcoholic wines.

THE MIST THAT SPARKED THE NAME

Whenever I think back to the mist, I feel a sense of calm. It reminds me of childhood holidays by the ocean; long days on the beach with friends, coastal walks in the Cape, golden sunsets that seemed to stretch forever.

Years later, living on the Bay in San Francisco, I found that same stillness watching the fog roll over the Golden Gate bridge. Then again in Big Sur, on a misty afternoon when I proposed to my wife.

That quiet, relaxing feeling is what inspired the name Misty Cliffs, a wine for moments that invite pause, presence, and connection.

OUR WINEMAKING PHILOSOPHY

At Misty Cliffs, everything begins in the vineyard. We carefully select sites best suited for crafting premium non-alcoholic wines, where quality grapes can fully express character, balance, and depth.

From there, we work with one of the most accomplished winemaking teams in the world; experts in both traditional methods and innovative non-alcoholic techniques. Their artistry is at the heart of every bottle, ensuring Misty Cliffs delivers the complexity and elegance of fine wine, just without the alcohol.

THE PROCESS

We craft traditional wine, then gently remove the alcohol.

Step 1: Capturing Essence We begin by fermenting hand-selected grapes from premium vineyards, just like any traditional wine, preserving all the vibrant aromas and structure.

Step 2: Gentle De-Alcoholization Using advanced spinning cone technology at low temperatures, we gently remove the alcohol while keeping delicate flavor compounds intact.

Step 3: Flavor Reunification We reunite the essence of the wine, floral, fruity, mineral, and spice, back into the body, delivering a true wine experience, without compromise.

FROM OCEAN MIST TO INLAND SUN

Our vineyards span varied climates, from cool, wind-swept coastal blocks to sun-rich inland slopes, giving each varietal its own distinct expression.

Misty Cliffs wines begin in South Africa’s most dynamic regions: Stellenbosch, Swartland, and select coastal vineyards, where nature’s extremes shape our fruit's character and depth. We work with diverse sites, from misty, wind-swept coastal blocks to warmer inland slopes, each chosen for how it elevates a particular varietal.

Some of our grapes come from old bush vines; low, self-reliant shrubs that thrive under dry stress. Their deep roots yield smaller berries with naturally vibrant acidity and layered complexity. It’s a sustainable, heritage-driven approach that brings clarity and structure to every glass.
